Construido entre los siglos XV y XVI, Palacio de Las Due\u00f1as toma su nombre del desaparecido monasterio de Santa Mar\u00eda de las Due\u00f1as, ubicado en el solar colindante y demolido en 1868. Su origen fue la casa-palacio de los Pineda, se\u00f1ores de Casa Bermeja, que constitu\u00edan uno de los linajes del patriciado de Sevilla. Sus miembros ejercieron importantes oficios como la escriban\u00eda mayor del cabildo de la ciudad y participaron en episodios b\u00e9licos de la Guerra de Granada. Posteriormente el Palacio fue heredado por don Fernando Enr\u00edquez de Ribera, II marqu\u00e9s de Villanueva del R\u00edo y padre de Antonia Enr\u00edquez de Ribera, casada en 1612 con Fernando \u00c1lvarez de Toledo, futuro VI duque de Alba. Desde esta fecha el palacio pertenece a la Casa de Alba. En el siglo XIX Las Due\u00f1as fue convertida en casa de vecinos, sus salones compartimentados con tabiques y los artesonados cubiertos con cielos rasos. Curiosamente, uno de los inquilinos, y administrador del Palacio, fue Antonio Machado \u00c1lvarez cuya circunstancia posibilit\u00f3 el nacimiento de uno de los m\u00e1s grandes poetas
